We warmly invite you to attend a free workshop event run By Graham Galloway the Chief officer of Kirrie Connections, to explore developing a new community hub to support families affected by dementia.

Meeting Centres are an innovative way of supporting people with mild to moderate dementia and their families through an evidence-based, person-centred approach, and offer an enjoyable, flexible and adaptive programme.

They are a great low-cost community-based way of supporting people living with dementia and their families, that have been successfully implemented in the Netherlands for thirty years and in the UK over the past six years. They are now growing across Scotland and feature in the new National Scottish Dementia Strategy, which was published in May.

On Thursday 14th September between 10am-3pm (lunch included) a workshop will be held in The Gordon Memorial Hall , Rosemarkie IV10 8UE.

It  will cover:-

- The background to Meeting Centres - history, principles and ethos, including the adjusting to change approach.
- How to set up Information meetings and an Initiative Group of interested stakeholders.
- Creating an implementation plan which includes:-

  • Who your target group is (who will attend the Meeting Centre);
  • The programme of activities (for people with dementia, for carers; for the community);
  • Finance (funding and sustainability);
  • Finding a good location;
  • Protocol and collaboration between stakeholders;
  • Staffing and training;
  • PR and marketing (reaching out to participants and referrers).

- A Guidebook will be provided for all those attending to take away
- What support you can receive from Meeting Centres Scotland
